Hatchet 3 (2013) film review (Decker Shado review)

Wiki Article

Hatchet 3 is Hatchet's horror film of 2013. It follows the ongoing adventures of Victor Crowley's adventures in Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp, as in addition to his brutal murderous rampage. Kane Hodder portrays Victor Crowley while Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanbilt plays Misty.

The film's main strength lies in the use of real-world special effects. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of makeup effects that are practical as well as sets. This is different from many horror movies today that rely heavily upon CG effects. The film also has several truly terrifying moments.

Kane Hodder is a standout in the ensemble and is a formidable villain. It's like a slasher film from the 1980s and the dialogue is somewhat tongue-in-cheek and campy. There are also certain moments of genuine comedy throughout, which provide a comical contrast against all of the gut-wrenching action on screen.

Unfortunately, due to the limited budget (reportedly just $1 million) most of the locations are repeats from previous films in the series--the same boat house was used two times within the movie and much of it feels like it's been recycled from other films in this franchise. Hatchet or Hatchet II may be able to recognize it as familiar, which could result in the film feeling almost too familiar.

In the end, Hatchet 3 was very enjoyable. I found it to be very like other films in this series. However, Hatchet (click now to view blogs) 3 provided lots of thrilling thrills and hilarious performances by its cast.
